WILLIAM CONRAD LAWLESS, (1), third son of John and Margaret (Skirvin) Lawless, was born in Williamstown, Grant County, Kentucky, on January 7, 1829. When he was six years of age, his parents moved to Adams County, Illinois. He was educated in the country schools. He was married to Mary Ann Pearce on February 1, 1855. She was born on February 8, 1823 in Grant County, Kentucky.  He and his brother John farmed two years in Clark County, Missouri; then located in Gilmer Township, Adams County. He and his wife were members of the Methodist Church at Mt. Pleasant. He supported the Republican Party. He died on February 16, 1898. His wife lived on the home place with their son Charles and his family until her death, on July 6, 1907. William Conrad Lawless and his wife were buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Adams County. They had eight children: Orville Henry, John Thomas, Elizabeth Margaret, David Oliver, Mary Ann, William Wilbur, James Albert, and Charles Clarence.
