Susan Florence McBroom (2), daughter of James and Susan Anna Lawless McBroom, was born on October 10, 1870, in Adams County, Illinois. She graduated from Red Oak High School, Red Oak, Iowa, and Bedford Normal School, Bedford; then taught in the public schools of Iowa and Illinois for thirteen years. She was married to Ralph E. Black, of Kansas City, Missouri, on November 5, 1906, in the home of her sister, Anna Black, at Red Oak. The Reverend William Merchie, Minister of the First United Presbyterian Church of Red Oak, officiated. Ralph was born in Iowa in February 1884 to Ira D. and Lydia C. Black.  They lived in Kansas City for ten years, where her husband was employed as a City Solicitor. In 1917 they located on a farm in Iowa. She united with the Presbyterian Church when young and was an active member throughout life. Both she and her husband died in 1956 and were buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak. They had no children.
