Anna D. McBroom, (2), daughter of James and Susan Anna Lawless McBroom, was born on May 9, 1872, in Gilmer Township, Adams County, Illinois. She was four years old when her mother died. She went with the family to Hamilton, Illinois; then when she was eight years old, they moved to southwestern Iowa. She received her education in the public schools and at Red Oak Normal School. She was married to Joseph W. Black onFebruary 1, 1899, in the parsonage of the United Presbyterian Church at Red Oak. The Reverend S. E. Duboise officiated. Joseph was born in Iowa in June 1869 to Ira D. and Lydia C. Black.  Joseph and Anna lived near Red Oak with the exception of two years-from 1910 to 1912-when they were located near Liberty, Illinois. He was a farmer and dairyman. After an illness of short duration, she died on May 23, 1927. He died in 1945, and both were buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa. They had no children.
