Hugh Clement Lawless, (2), son of Oliver Perry and Margaret Lawless, was born in the farm home near Columbus, Illinois, on February 5, 1878. He was married to Mary Frances Murphy in her home on East Broadway, Quincy, on January 21, 1904. The Reverend W. E. Rose officiated. She was born February 5, 1876.  Mary attended Chaddock College and taught five years in the district schools of Adams County. Both were members of the Methodist Church at Columbus where she was Superintendent of the Sunday School and teacher of a class. They lived with his father until his death; then remained on the homestead. He lived all his life on the farm homestead where he was engaged in farming. He died in Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, on October 20, 1932, and was buried in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy. His wife resided in her home in Quincy. She lived to be 100 years old.  She died in February 1976. They had no children.
